IT WAS a big night for YVG Ariels on Wednesday, February 26, with all three VNL teams posting big wins against Fed Uni Ballarat Pride.

Ariels' Championship and Division 1 teams had their first wins for the season in round four, with both recording 14-goal victories.

Championship were impressive from the outset, taking a 16-9 lead at quarter-time, with goal attack Gabrielle Sinclair (23 goals from 26 attempts for the match) and wing attack Kelsey Browne leading the way.

Defenders Shannon Eagland and Kaitlyn Black proved a formidable combination in defence and helped set up the 58-44 result.

Division 1 had some handy inclusions that helped spark the team to a much-needed 54-40 win.

Sophie O'Kane was called into the side at goal attack and provided perfect support to goal shooter Rachel King, who netted an impressive 37 goals from 40 attempts.

State player and young gun Kate Eddy also returned from an ankle injury for her first game of the year, playing a stellar game in defence and receiving the three votes from the umpires.

And the 19 and Under team finally had a match that was decided by more than a goal, beating Pride 55-30 despite a slow start.

Ariels fell behind 4-7 before making changes halfway through the first quarter and fighting back to lead by a goal at quarter-time, then blew the game open with an 18-5 second quarter.

Tori Starling was impressive at wing attack and was named best on court, while goal shooting talls Sam Gooden and Rachel Smart combined well.
